NOTES:
- Ping = technically it's designed to see if the other machine is reachable.
- Microsoft Windows
- Click the Windows icon [formally known as the Start button.
- Type "cmd" in the search bar. [alternatively you could go Start, Run, type "cmd", and click Enter]
- Type "ping" followed by the IP address or a domain name.
- Apple OSX
- Open up Spotlight.
- Type in "terminal".
- Click on Terminal listed under your Applications in the search results.
- Type "ping" followed by the IP address or a domain name.
- SONAR = Sound Navigation and Ranging. The sound made by SONAR was...yes, "ping".
- Linksys: 192.168.1.1
- D-Link: 192.168.0.1
- Netgear: 192.168.2.1
- For additional typical IP addresses check http://www.cyberwalker.com/article/720.
- For example, if numeric IP's respond but domain names [i.e. .com, .net, .org, etc] don't, it's a DNS issue.
- Traceroute = shows the route that each packet leaving your personal computer takes on its way to its destination.

- Type "tracert" followed by the IP address or domain name and press Enter
- Apple OSX
- Open up Spotlight.

- Type "traceroute" followed by the IP address or domain name and press Enter
- WHOIS service at http://www.dnsstuff.com/.
- WHOIS downloadable software at http://www.tinyurl.com/2xr3gu.
