- DVD- Digital Video Disc. It's also known as a Digital Versatile Disc.

- Blu-ray Association founders include Sony, Matsushita, Pioneer, Philips, LG, Thomson, Hitachi, Sharp, and Samsung.

- HD DVD consortium founders include Toshiba, Sanyo, NEC, and Memory Technology. Microsoft and Pioneer joined later. HD DVD officially died on January 4, 2008 when Warner Bros starting producing movies only in the Blu-ray format.

- Universal, which released exclusively on HD DVD, annouced in Fedruary it was moving to Blu-ray.

- Sony learned its lesson from the failure of Beta, and invested heavily in Blu-ray to make it a success.

- CES = Consumer Electronics Show -- the big gadget show in Las Vegas, NV every January.

- LG Super Blu BH200 High Definition Player= $586 Amazon.

- Samsung BD-UP5000 High Definition Player= $750 Amazon.
